Ten years ago

I thought it would be fun to have a thread where we go through our archives to see what we were up to a decade ago. You might meet old friends, remember past pets, or uncover a few episodes in your life you forgot all about.

Post a picture from the date of your post, but 10 years ago, give or take a few weeks. This is a rolling window into your past. You might be surprised at what you re-discover!

July, 2009: Ten-years-ago me has just finished Freshman year of college. I'm working part-time at a tiny body shop in Brooks, Georgia. The boss jokingly calls me the "interior specialist': I'm the one who cleans out the carpets, seats, etc.

I'm excited because my co-worker Rocky is patching up what will soon be my first car, a 2003 Chevy Cavalier, bought at auction. I'm using a point-and-shoot Canon. My photography skills are...

Awesome, thanks for the posts so far! Keep them coming! I hope this thread keeps going until at least 2012, when I discovered RAW files.

Tim, that's definitely a bucket-list place for me. Spectacular location.

Paul, isn't it strange to see them so young again? I bet they've grown a lot since then!

John, looks like a tasty festival. I love that sign, "It's worth the weight!"

Jim, looks like you're one of the ones who was good at this even ten years ago. I'm sorry to hear that about your wife.

You got that right - Our oldest is now married with a couple kids, and Hanna (younger) just graduated high school. Astonishing how quickly time flies!

Here's another taken at Naritasan Park, Japan in 2009 (Lumix TZ1):

New Mexico is a beautiful place. My sister went to college not far from there, in Las Vegas (the original Las Vegas ), at the edge of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. It was my first exposure to any wide open landscape, after spending my whole life in Georgia.

I really like that picture! I've never visited another country before.

Meanwhile, I'm still at the body shop, where this old stray more or less lived. We just called her "mama dog." She was very sweet and gentle. She liked to sleep on the tile floor of the office. There was no air conditioning, but at least it was shady and the tiles were cool.

She died peacefully about a year later.
