Very busy day; picture taken but I have no energy for pp and uploading today. And I think I could qout Sandy by saying, that I got mail and it pleased me a lot! It could be the theme for tomorrow.

ok - needing the group's opinions/experience:

Cosina Topcor 58mm f1.4 (M42) - I know it's a remake of the old RE Topcor 58, etc... and the basis for the Voigtlander Nokton 58/1.4...

anybody use one, buy one, sell one?

Happy Australia Day to our SIC members from the other hemisphere!

EDIT: Had a great hike today, too tired to post, but I think I get a few good shots

My gear porn shot from yesterday has hit Explore LOL.

At least it might be some good exposure for the brand

Yes, sad to hear of the passing of Terry Jones...
I once spent the better part of a week travelling around in the back of a 4WD in Romania with Terry filming for his series "Terry Jones' Barbarians". I was the "talking head" expert on the Dacians and we filmed together at Sarmizegetusa Regia up in the mountains of Transylvania. He was great fun and very articulate. The next time I met him in London, he didn't remember me and was clearly having problems. I thought something was wrong but it was at least a year before his illness was made public.

January Single In Challenge 2020 with K1ii & M150/3.5

So a month is done and time to do wrap up. Last week the weather has been poor and I didn't really pay attention to shooting. Just shoot something at the end of the day. Made me feel like I've been lazy in my participation this month, but in retrospect I was doing great mid month. I didn't miss any days and there is also good divercity in my album so I think this was a good month in total.

The lens, M150/3.5, is one of the better ones in the series. This and M120 are true hidden gems. When I started looking into M series I read a lot PF reviews and both of these lenses have lower score and reviews are missing the praise these deserve, so I kind of missed them. Finland is a small market with limited selection of gear available. I remember there was one M150 on sale for quite long, but I didn't pay attention to it, due to week reviews, and let it go. A mistake I have regreted after I decided to get full set of M's. In the end had to order one thru PF from US.

M150 is quite compact lens, significally smaller than M200, so it's easy to carry in camera bag in case you need longer reach. It's pretty sharp and most noteworthly it's reasonably sharp wide open. I shot a lot wide open this month. Way more than usually, as I didn't need to worry about sharpness. Yet stopping down to f5.6 give some extra like typical for lenses this age. Some vignetting wide open on FF, but not too severe. Easy to correct in PP if needed. Some fringing wide open, but on the better side on this respect as well when compared to other M's. Lens is also a pleasure to use as always

Really hard to pull out anything negative. MFD is bit long, but also that is typical for M series. Might be a size thing. Anyway it would be nice to get bit closer without extension tubes.

I really haven't made up my mind so far which one is better M150 or M120, but it's clear that these are the best choises between M85 and M*300. Due to focal length M150 often seems to find it's place in my travel bag over M120, as it falls nicer between. Clearly a keeper, so my lens is off the market

Wide open:

The Pentax F100-300mm was a great find, and a much needed zoom for my K-1. Overall, I am very pleased, considering I got a copy with good optics and responsive AF, for less than $100. It's a bit long, I need a new lens case for storage, but fairly lightweight in construction, so not a bad lens to take on a short hike. I was surprise to see three copies of this lens at the store from which I bought my copy, including one copy with a power zoom feature. I definitely recommend this lens to anyone needing a full frame telephoto zoom.

It allowed for some nice street images , even when cropped significantly

It was sharp, but still produced pleasant bokeh

IT also worked well in low-light situations.

Well that was a fun month, the DFA 50mm 1.4 is a fantastic lens, more than capable of making my most uninspiring shots even have some pixie dust. The photos with shallow depth of field have the most lovely bokeh. The resolving power means this lens can easily act as a telephoto just by cropping down as the quality is there. Yes, it is a heavy lump of glass but when using it on the K1 it never felt heavy, certainly when I picked up the camera bag I felt the weight , however it is well balanced in the hand. The odd filter size of 72mm means I will most likely just use the 77mm filters with a step down ring. The hood works well and reverses nicely for storage. Every time I took a photo and examined it with this lens, the result was better than I expected , there is something magical about it. The only other lens I have that does that is the F*300mm 4.5. Sometimes a lens just works right and this 50mm is one of those. Is it value for money? I think so and it is staying in the bag full time from now on.

end of the month review: Carl Zeiss Jena MC Flektogon 35mm f2.4

there's a reason this lens has a cult following - it's good, really good...

in every category except one, this lens is simply outstanding - color, clarity, bokeh, short MFD, pretty much anything you throw at it, this lens can handle it...

the only letdown is the build quality - it just isn't very inspiring to use - it's loose, the focus ring isn't damped very well, the tolerances between pieces seem large...

but get past that and let the lens' optics remind you what you are there for:

and the rest of the album for the month:

I bought two M42 35mm lenses within a week of each other; this lens and a Super Takumar 35mm f2..... and I'm selling the Super Tak..

that's how good this one is....

This month's lens, the Tair 3S 300mm Photosniper is a really fun lens to use. Either on its stock or handheld. Great IQ and surprisingly easy to carry around - mind you, I use a shoulder sling if it's being used without the stock rather than a neck strap, and that makes a big difference.
Next month, as I'm going to Madeira on hol next week, and I am assured that there will be a certain amount of landscape, it will be the Sigma 24mm EX DG.

I had been wondering about the difference in detail or sharpness between an image on Flickr versus the way it appears linked into a PF thread, and it appears to me that the images linked here from Flickr appear softer.

It does not matter much to me, if I see an image I like I go over to Flickr to comment and see that image as well.
