At Ronce-les-Bains you weren't too far from La Rochelle My wife's distant ancestor on her father's side emigrated from there to Quebec in 1630. The house he built that year was still in use in 1980, although not by a descendant.

I spy stairs. Scan of a chrome, converted to B&W, of a staircase in a bank that had been converted to a B&B. We were the only people staying. Every room contained extraordinary antiques.
