My son & daughter-in-law got a second-hand beamer on a time-sharing basis: she gets it half the time; the other half it belongs to the mechanic. Seriously, they are planning to trade it ASAP. Yep, that is the reputation of BMW around here-when they go, a pleasure to drive, but when the problems hit, they HIT bad. Some mechanics I know will not touch them. Even some of my young people have told me they will never buy a BMW.

My Forester has nothing that is "exciting" or "eye-turning," but it's just short of 100,000 miles with nothing but routine maintenance. I'll take mundane but reliable any day. So will my wallet.
