I spy a small pond that has at least been enlarged by humans. There's a small dam at the outflow, but the size of the pond versus the dam makes me think there was a least a marsh or wetland, but probably a smaller natural pond before the dam was built.

That is cool - that you should be seeing the same or very similar irises at the same time.

I'll spy yellow iris another time, but reserve other images of this plant for letter "I."

That is an iris, a wild type called "blue flag" in my identification books. I've seen individual and clusters almost every Spring, but conditions this year have brought them up, in some locations, by the thousand. Never seen so many as we encountered on our morning walk this past Monday.
