Hey Captain,
A wonderful little record store in my youth 'Rather Ripped Records' was just down the street from Kalx the college Radio station. So every week we would drive the 40 miles to Berkeley to buy the latest promo records that had been brought over from the station. Found 'Tasty' there one afternoon... wore out two vinyl copies before the CD found its way to market.. Once you taste the Tasty Good Rats... you can never go back.
One of my bands a few years ago would cover tasty and fireball express at some of our live shows.
I also stumbled upon the first two AC DC aus imports, the first two Judas Priest records (back when they wore jeans and lumberjack shirts
) the first couple scorpions / ufo records... usually the records would hit the radio station about the time of a tour so we would usually head to SF and some little club to see these bands long before they became famous... Sadly the Good Rats have never been live in my world... My good rat friend and I are considering a NY run to see a show.
My lack of taste changed to a more soft-punk attitude not long after, Dictators, Eddie and the Hot Rods etc, but those early promo cut-outs shaped the bands I later sang in. "One drummer, bass and two guitars" what more does one need!
NOW... I SPY A GAME
