PP Challenge #329 - Piestewa Peak

Thanks Glenn for hosting the last round.. We're staying relatively near the same spot this time, Piestewa Peak, a nice little hike in Phoenix AZ.

Do whatever you want to as many entries you want and I'll wrap it up next week, on May 6th, whenever I get around to it.

Having a bit of fun with this one. I went dark and moody black and white to start with then I thought, you know what would fit in there, a dragon! Ran through analog efex for a bit of extra grittiness to finish it off.

Stunning picture, Todd!

I liked the colours in the sky so much that I decided to emphasize them a bit more. It looks like the start of a beautiful day.

And below my second attempt

What a wonderful picture! Looks like the new GR is no worse at preserving shadow detail than the old one. And no, I'm quite happy with my "old" GR II, thank you very much

Some basic edits in LR (mainly increasing contrast by pulling in the black and white points, as well as lifting the shadows and pulling down the highlights), then over to Color Efex and add half a dozen layers, back to LR for some local adjustments.

...and then put the resulting image through Silver Efex ("Fine Art" preset with a yellow filter at about 50%).

My Attempt

Here is my attempt. This is the first time I have entered this competition (or any on Pentax Forums). I guess only subtle differences to a few already entered.

Well I see the quality work is still coming in but thought I'd give this challenge a go as it was a challenge to create something different whilst still doing a great picture justice.

For this version I wanted something warm, unique compared to the other versions created but also wanted it to be clean unlike the textured look I used last time in #328. I created two extra versions to stack as a HDR with different PP to the base image then went down a path of looking for tones that would work. All PP in On1.2020.

Figured I would try a colour version too as that sky is really rather impressive.

My first time as well.

At first I wanted to try and keep it somewhat realistic while also pushing the shadows, contrast and colours and pronouncing the beautiful sky, all in DxO PhotoLab 3. Then I thought it would be a little boring without a little creative freedom, so I made some final adjustments in Analog Effex. I feel like it looks like everyone's first HDR though, which is not a good thing to say about my own edit. Oh well here it goes:

One of the few times I've added some flare and liked it.

Here's my take, just a basic edit, but it needed the 'Hi Ho Silver' touch as well.

My version. I went for a 1:1 crop this time.
