If you are trying to find something beautiful every day at the time you have to shoot, you are going to be in trouble. Making the shot out of the chosen target is something I've learned in the challenge. Other is that the object itself doesn't have to be exciting. It's my job as a phorographer to turn it into something interesting with composition and lighting.
Bang on - a la my knife + chopping board shot last month with the Tak 35/3.5, it was something that I use every day, not particularly amazing lighting and is one of the best shots I've taken. Being forced out of your comfort zone and attempting to adapt is where the learning happens!

I've been doing this Challenge with more or less regularity for eight years, and I can confidently say about 50% of my shots are made in haste, desperation, or a combination of the two.

I envy those who can control their lives to the extent where everything is planned in advance.

But on the other hand, I like spontaneity

unless you mean within about a 10 minute window of me seeing something interesting, I rarely plan shots.....

95% of my SIC shots are completely spontaneous and are just happened upon.... I try to think ahead for the theme days, but that rarely goes to plan...

I'm out for a few days unfortunately. Work has just gone mental and I've landed a beauty of a project , to go with my other projects. Nice to be in demand I suppose. I had scheduled myself to be off for 6 extra days so far this month but have been pulled in to do some firefighting one day, a bit of direction on another and the hours add up. I'll probably just continue on with the 70-200 into August too. Nothing else getting a look in

Many of my Single In images happen in the 11th hour, I coined a phrase "Desperation spurs Inspiration" because I have been willing to try almost anything to capture an interesting image before the end of each day.

When I get to that point (which is quite often) I tend to just aim the camera at Sully

More seriously though, like Sandy, I like spontaneity, and really don’t plan anything (except astro, occasionally).

Planning has never been one of my priorities. I just shoot what I see when I'm out and about. I think of my daily photography as a record of my not very interesting life.

So today I painted the room three times and I'm almost done with the whole job (luckily the weather was sunny) but I have no energy to go out for shooting. I almost decided to skip a day but maybe some macro will do the job...

Anybody else has checked the thread hoping for the "August thread is up" post? And usual "awesomeness" reply

If I stick to my schedule, I won't be participating in SIC next month, either, but I look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

Not me, but I have a lens chosen. And one in reserve if it arrives in time....

I have already lined mine up, and being a Takumar I also get to play with my Fuji x-e1

Shooting with the HD FA 35 this month was good and reaffirmed what I thought about the lens. Overall pretty happy with the lens. For some reason 35mm is about as wide as I like to go for most shooting including landscapes. I have a 28 and a 14 that rarely come out. I guess the new 21 won't be high on my list for new gear. As I really prefer 50mm or longer I found myself using my K3 more than the K1 since my suburban neighborhood doesn't offer much for landscape shots. Not sure what to go with next month. I have an FA 50mm macro coming in the mail so that's a possibility. Maybe a takumar 55... Or the samyang 85mm...
