Thanks Gary; had a couple of look-throughs now. I'm happy with my DFA 28-105 but after using this months lens I was curious about the FA* 28-70 as it's a similar weight to the DFA 24-70 and a lot cheaper but it also has a far more sensible filter size (and its silver!).
The images taken on a rainy day looked good; I liked the colours produced when it was overcast and the lens especially looked good at F2.8-4.

All my images with the DFA 28-105 were taken at f4.5 and up so the FA* would give me more options although 25% of my images were over the 70mm focal length.

Thinking all this through as I type I may well end up with two kits!!! DFA 28-105 with DA*200 (main set up) or the FA*28-70 and FA* 80-200........ mmmmm.
Or just stick with FA31/43/FA* 80-200.

Ho Hum lots to think about and no real rush to get there

From my own experience, shooting with zooms makes me a bit lazier in composition and more prone to snapping away. Still, I often resort to a zoom as a walk-around, every day carry combo because I might just decide to go on a hike, or for a quick run to the corner store, so I grab my camera bag and move out knowing I'm ready for any occasion. For Monovember I will go to a prime, probably the FA 77mm.

On the K-1 I've been very happy with using the DA 18-135, minimal vignetting at the wide end, and WR, so I'm not in a hurry to get the 28-105mm.

I did buy an FA 24-90 IF AL from a PF member, and that has been a great lens for many occasions. I can't understand why the original owner did not like it, but it has worked out very well for me.

Lots of good points; The 80-200 has definite uses for me (I'd normally combine the 31/43 with the DFA 100) but I agree that it is easier to think less about composition - so we just have to concentrate that bit more
As an early adopter (2011) I liked my 18-135 very much but I sold it after buying the 20-40 (not the same at all I know but I just always used the 20-40 and 100Macro combo).
I did actually have the 24-90 for the K-1 and it is indeed a good lens.
I sold it and bought the 28-105 for the WR more than anything else. I also prefer the 20mm FL to 24mm so adding my A20 to the 28-105 and DA200 just works better for me.

Soooooo many lenses to try out and play with

Interesting. I don't think I've tried mine on the K1.

Several others have mentioned using the zoom as a series of single focal length lenses, rather than just zooming to fit, it gives you a reference point for the zoom. As the month goes on I find myself trying that, it seems to help me

I caught up with posting, as you might have noticed I still need a day or two to go through your submissions from the past few days.

Funny thing I found one month with the 50-200 early on, when I looked at what focal lengths I ended up taking photos at: 50 and 200mm were of course common, but there seemed also to be peaks around 135mm and 80 or just under.

For whatever that is or isn’t worth

I bought some light to the dark winter nigths. Couldn't find Godox tt350p in Finland, so ordered from UK. About time to start learning lightwork.

Congrats...the TT350 is a great little light. I have one for the a6300. Works great. My LP180s are monster size compared to it. You should have lots of fun with it on those dark winter nights!

And I got somehow overwhelmed by work and my performance during the past week has been rather poor. Very little time for anything apart from work; I hope things will get easier before the end of the month as the lens (Tamron 90 macro) is stunning.
