G'Day again everyone I hope you are all well and looking forward to another round with a difference.
Typically I'd be looking at landscapes/seascapes/cityscapes for this challenge but the last round from Laurie proved there's an interest in other subject for the challenge so I went with something I've not seen before so hopefully you enjoy giving this one a go.
Beyond the scapes I like to do sports photography. Mainly motorcycle racing but other topics too. One of my favourites is surfing. And Pentax cameras are not good enough for sports apparently, but nobody mentioned that to my K-1. And in this space and with this type of image the K-1 has an advantage. That sensor.
With surfing you will normally be in high contrast direct sunlight with white water wanting to blow out the highlights and the K-1 sensor is not really geared for that so you will see this weeks challenge is a surfing image that looks dull and and dark. But don't be fooled, the shadows can be pushed and there's lots of colour in this water if you go looking. The framing is in the centre to get best use of AF on the HD D-FA 150-450.
So this is an image framed to take advantage of AF and not good compositionally that won't respond well to global processing. I recommend it's best to target what you change exposure and vibrance/saturation on to keep things natural looking. And careful of the highlights, I went with the exposure to avoid them and there's lots of details if you don't go too hard there.
Anyhoo, my 2c on why this image looks like this and why I think it's a great challenge candidate.
I have posted the DNG and a full size jpeg here:
My Files
I will let this challenge run for about a week which means a handover next weekend. Good luck everyone, I hope we get another good crowd looking to take on a different challenge.
