It's already a great start, I am not too familiar with diving birds so maybe I'm easily impressed as a naive audience But still, the negative space and the thin band of water really brings the composition together and suggests the speed of the dive, there's something about the balance of elements that works really well

Thanks, getting the water in the shot was important to "ground" the scene, since it's only a dive from 15-20 feet it wasn't too hard. Before I moved down here I had no idea that Pelicans would dive into the water like that.

I'm going to go with this shot from the 4th for July. I rode my bike up a service road to the top of the mountain next to town for this perspective. Most people are down there in the park.
Fun to shoot these and I like the outcome too. I'm not all that into fireworks except for the photo opportunities. But those are usually some interesting opportunities.

Leander steaming into Lancaster

K3 & HD 55-300mm WR

I single in'd with this lens and it excelled. My short list for this was quite long, but I do love a good train, so much so I included another couple that nearly made the cut

I only just became aware of this thread, so here's my favourite image from my local area for July, taken with the K3 and 20-40mm DA Limited.

I had a few I liked for August but I'll go with this juvenile Tricolored Heron, I got quite a few photos of two of these this month. They have been hanging around a park, an at least one of the two will let you get pretty close, so I have gotten some pretty good looks.

Two contenders were a Spotted Sandpiper, and the first Timber Rattlesnake I have ever seen in the wild,

When I lived in Tampa about 15 years ago, the old Gandy Street bridge connecting Tampa to St Pete was repurposed as a pedestrian and bike path across the bay. The height was 20-50 feet above the water level, so it was not uncommon to be about eye level to pelicans and other water birds who were flying along scanning for prey . Amazing birds.

I live near a vineyard and winery that has a polo field on the grounds, people come from miles around to spend an afternoon there enjoying the weather and the view.
EDIT: and the wine, of course

For September I'm going to have to go with this one from last week. Best show of light and atmospherics I have seen in a long time!
I was fortunate to be able to get to a spot I could come up with a reasonable composition in time. Never made it to the spot I was planning to shoot from that evening.

645D & FA 80-160 (4 shot pano stitched in Lightroom)
