Alright, let’s see if I can start something (something more than just this thread...).

I am the fortunate and very happy recipient of an HD Pentax-DA 21mm f3.2 Limited. (Yay Christmas; yay wife!)

I’m totally in love with it. 8)




And it occurred to me that this year is 2021...

Since I already take a photo every day (Blipfoto.com, the Daily challenge here, and the Single challenge here - for which I’m already using the DA 21 for January) I thought it might be a neat idea to shoot every day with the DA21 through all of 2021.

Also a foolish idea perhaps, but I think it’ll be fun, and lead me to learn the lens really thoroughly, as well as helping in my ongoing photography development.

So, who’s with me? 8)

Other thoughts have been put forward in the Single in January thread where I first mooted the idea: variations on the “21” theme, such as the 21st of each month; images in 21 fortnights...

So I’d like to propose a game: “21 in 21” - in whatever numerological flavour you might like, as long as it involves the DA21 (or another 21mm prime) in 2021, with some sort of overarching theme (individually determined and stated - or just boots and all like me, shooting every single day with the 21).

(If there’s interest, we might have to codify some rules or structure; perhaps splitting into monthly threads or something, depending on how big it does or doesn’t get.)

How about a collection of games under a 21 in 21 umbrella?

You've already flagged your game - a shot every day with a 21. Too intense for me and maybe others so I'll define the game I iwould play. Other players can also define their own games, or they can state their intent to join your game or play one of the other declared games.

So my game will be **:

21 shots taken with a DA 21mm (smc HD DFA whatever); shots to be taken on the 21st of each month, with at least one shot each month. I also commit to posting images gathered specifically for the 21 in 21 game ie I won't be cross-posting to other games, although I would expect to add them to other non-game groups on PF or Flickr for example.

I foresee just two threads: one for picture posts and another for discussion, just like SIC and DIC. By way of example you'd be leading the fray with daily picture posts, and then each month on the 21st I'll drop in with mine. Posts from all participants to be added to the one picture thread.

Too crazy? I think it might work. And what's the worst that can happen? Chaos? I think we're already well rehearsed from events of 2020 to cope with that .

I am in I like the shot posted on the 21st and will be doing that but I think we need a "21mm limited, show us what it can do" thread for general posts. Tsuken, do you want to do the honours? Mmm... a 21 shot each month on the 21st sounds doable... even for a slacko like me.... I missed my 21 once I got a KP.... so got a new one last year.

I think we need a "21mm limited, show us what it can do" thread for general posts.

There are two long running 21mm threads, but they are buried when I search for them (Which is why I prefer using groups to using threads, BTW). There are a few Pentraxins who use participate there and really show off the lens at its best

Whether we use Tsuken's or OzzRod's idea, I'm in.

I sold my 21 after I moved to FF so I'm out, but big hand to the bold idea. Otherwise would have gone for something easier like shot on each 21st or 21 shots with 21 in 21. I'll be following the progress.

I'm using the DA 21 limited in the Single In this month but do I want to commit to a daily shot all year? I like the idea of using the 21 on the 21st.

I use several groups other than SIC and DIC, I even started a group where Pentaxians could feature our fair state.
To me, the benefit of a group being that an interested user can more easily discover a group containing multiple related threads than trying to find each independently posted thread, which is why we see so many repeated, but abandoned independent threads.

Ah, sample photos thread. Somehow different I think from there “lens clubs” type of threads - and located in a different section I think, which perhaps contributes to them getting buried

After SIC ends, I think I will go with the posting of a an image made with the 21mm on the 21st of the month. Not because I don't love this lens for every day use , but I foresee me busy too busy to compose and post an image everyday in the near future.

I reserve the right to post a 21mm image on the 3th or 7th, or multiples there of, since they make 21 as well.
