COVID World

If you can't beat it, photograph it!

I thought it might be interesting to have a thread of images influenced by the current pandemic - closed shops, people in masks, posters, support for health or other key workers, anything with the new vocabulary or imagery - anything that results from COVID-19

I'll kick off with a common site in the UK - painted rainbows to express support for the NHS

Crappy cell phone pictures from a moving car:
Seven lanes of emptiness. Pre-Covid, these were not enough and traffic is always backed up in this location. Taken a few months ago at the beginning of the lockdown. This was a surreal scene!

Before you ask I was on the road taking some equipment to a medical facility.

A few years ago I did some work for the Freeway Authority. This toll station used to handle well over 50,000 cars in a 24 hr period! Permanent chaos!

Thanks,

Nice idea, a record of these dark times should be documented here. There are many people here to give artistic character to this theme. I'll try to contribute.

Here's one from April 2020 - on a woodland walk - the note doesn't mention COVID specifically, but the context as there.

Looking back, I'm finding it strange how little covid related stuff I've taken - a major part of life for nearly a year now, but it's like I've been pretending everything is normal, photographically speaking - the most noticeable thing is how many fewer images I made compared to a normal year

Queue at our local bakery, who does rolls (buns ... or whatever you call those where you live) the traditional way. I didn't write 'in front of' on purpose - the queue continues even further around the corner. I often have waited for 20min before, but I think it's been 40min that day - only one customer at a time allowed in the tiny shop.

Everybody kept the required distance. And yes, the rolls are worth it on a nice Saturday morning.

feels like an earlier era - I can imagine it in fairly harsh B&W

The cars dominating the streets kind of ruin that.

I'll start with this one. A boat trip to a little isle to the west of my home island. The boats can take about 20 people. Since the pandemic they've become less... of course some people are badly affected by that.
