Abandoned and Forgotten Vehicles, Machines, Equipment...

This is one that I know a lot of Pentax Forums members are interested in, because I see lots of single pictures on this theme. There are some great threads for ghost towns, abandoned buildings and such, but what about one for the mechanical devices that finally got pushed into an out of the way spot and left to rust away into oblivion? Let's see some of these old ghosts.

Here is a Yellow Truck and Coach road tractor. Yellow was GM's truck and bus division starting in 1925. It was restructured into GMC in 1943. There is lots of information available about the buses, but the trucks and road tractors seem to be forgotten - even though most years there were 10 to 20 times as many built as of buses. I found this old thing along a creek at the edge of town.

It took copious applications of spit applied by hand to get the builder's plate clean enough to read.

Yep, I used to walk along behind one of those things picking up the bales and throwing them on a trailer.

There is a deep hole in the riverbottom here that used to be dredged for sand. An old Bantam dragline, showing no signs of recent use, is gradually being overtaken by vegetation. The Schield Bantam Company built these light cranes starting in 1942. Eventually the company was acquired by Koehring, which afterward folded into Northwest Engineering, which is now known as Terex. The Terex Corporation is proud of their heritage and includes a page at their website devoted to Bantam cranes.
