This covered hopper took quite a hit and has resided on the stub of an old siding for several years. The DSSX reporting mark indicates Detroit Salt Company as the owner, and my guess is they have written it off and forgotten about it.

If by BMC you mean British Motor Corporation, it had to be good paint; it was primarily meant to hold the bodywork together.

The bright colours are also needed because of Mr Lucas ( the prince of darkness ).

Remnants of a four-burner kerosene cookstove at an abandoned homestead in piedmont North Carolina. Until rural electrification came in the years after WWII, most local farm housewives cooked over either kerosene or wood. I knew one old bachelor farmer who cooked over wood until his death in the early 1980s.
