Still not getting a buzz out of the 31, it's very good, don't get me wrong but it's almost boring in how easy it is to get sharp and defined and lovely bokeh combined in an image. It's missing the challenge that the 43 presents or the 77 for that matter.
Colour wise it can be a bit naughty and has caught me out once or twice. Resolution and transitions to oof areas are a dream. Still, a couple of more weeks to see if I can unlock some magic. I'll be catching up on comments today too

I've been missing so many theme days last months. I try to remember the shadows theme on Sunday AKA tomorrow.

Can somebody rename the March 13 'discussion' title from February to March?

Once again, away for several days, but I'm now back posting again.

Have posted to the 14th, 15th and 16th. Still need to get back and post to the two or three days before that.

Mid-month assessment: I've been surprised pleasantly by the M50/1.4. Sharper at wide apertures shooting at close range than my last attempt to use it (the operator appears to have improved his technique). MUCH less CA than I was expecting. This is actually a pretty well behaved lens. Yes, there's a bit here and there but easily removed in pp and better than some of Pentax's pricy options. On prior use, infinity focused images just looked wrong and so the lens got put back on the shelf. This month I got the JIS screwdrivers out and re-did the Infinity focus stop. As I had suspected, infinity was mis-adjusted - maybe the lens had been adapted to another system in a past life and someone's played with the focus. Infinity detail now reasonable - it's not a 31 Limited or F50/1.7 at infinity but reasonable. Close up to middling distances seems to be the sweet spot for sharpness. I might do the Infinity stop calibration again just to see if a little more sharpness can be squeezed out of landscapes.

My mid-month assessment: It's as hard to keep on schedule with posting images as I anticipated and a wet and cold March is not a good match for a wide angle lens use. Luckily the FA31 even exceeded my expectations and it may actually start jumping between bags now - between K-1 and KP bags, where otherwise the HD FA35 reigns the 'normal' field of view.

It's a very versatile lens - definitely worth it

On an LBA note; earlier this month I mentioned selling some lenses - aaaaaaarrrrrrrhhh! I hear some of you cry

But no, seriously, this is a good thing. This last week I have sold my A16, A15, A20 (which I never thought possible), A50/1.4, A*85 (bit sad about this one), the FAJ 18-35, the A28/2 (the FA31 is better) and the M20 that I only bought because I thought it may be equal to the A20 (it isn't at all and with the original hood it really isn't any smaller either!).
As a bonus I also sold a Pentax booklet on K lenses that had been for sale for months.

I Love Ebay

The upshot of all this is that the DA*11-18 replaces all of the above UWA lenses (not the A16 fisheye but I dint feel the need for it any more) on both the K-3 and the K-1 (works 15-18mm no problem). The A*85 is irreplaceable but I tend to use the FA77 far more often now.

I now have enough money to pay for the DA*11-18 (4 months interest free on PayPal) and to then buy the upcoming K-3iii - see LBA is goooooood
