was just thinking about the path of the lens? do you think it makes sense to send the lens up and down from person to person while moving it eastward instead of jumping it all over the place in the US and Canada in order to follow the list?

Where are all the photos?

The lens has now covered a lot of distance and been in the hands of many photographers thus far, however, I keep going to the flickr site expecting to see a great increase in the number of photos lodged, but find I am very let down.,
Congratulations to those who have taken the time to post there shots, some really great shots, , but if my calculations are right, there must be many more out there.

Only TWO Flickr pages so far ??? Where are all the photos???

Agree with both the lads here. There's no need to follow the order on the list. God knows we haven't to this point.

Bruce... I've noticed that myself and am spending today trying to figure out who didn't get shots up. There's shots there that haven't been marked on the map either so I'll look into fixing that too.

Will send a PM to anyone who's missing to make sure they got the Flickr login details etc

I know that I haven't so far, although I do have the log-in details. If anyone else is like me, they took a lot a photos and need to find a block of time to select the best and put them up.

I was trying to limit the uploads to flickr and hope to also post additional shots here in this thread.....

Anyways, here's a bokeh study shot, low key style, taken @ f1.7:

Shot of Crystal Cove Beach State Park and the beach cottages. These cottages were once leased to private parties (lucky folks they were!) and now belong to the State of California and are reserved through the State (or is it national park?) system.

Hey Nifty50 - where you going?
These were taken late evening and @ f1.7, as the park was closing. A slower lens would not have helped here.

Noise (or is it grain?) is quite evident here.. But wanted to let everyone know that at least this Nifty50 has traveled this part of Southern California

I've posted 4 shots altogether in the flickr site, with a couple extra in here. I think at one time, it was suggested that we post a max of 3 shots. I definitely took more than 4 shots with the lens, I'm sure others did also - to get a feel for it and to compare it against my other MF ~50mm lenses (I've got an M 1.4, M 2.0, A 2.0, 40mm 2.8 and a Cosina 55mm 1.2). Some of you are probably wondering where all the shots are and why those shots...

I'm going to assume that folks who had this prior to me took hundreds of shots, and that there were quite a few that were not selected to be included. Either technique, the topic, or favoritism possibly played in to this. To decide which shot or shots to post, at least for me was not easy.

I decided to choose shots with the "traveling" in mind - post shots which show where the lens has been, preferably within short distance from the photographer who has the lens. Being from SoCal, I chose
1. Natural landscape close by - (Orchard Hills)
2. Urban/City feature not well known (garden bridge)
3. Beach scene (Crystal Cove beach)
4. Of course, some famous tourist attraction known to be in Southern California but in a way that's not blatantly obvious but still says "California"

All in all, using this A lens was great with my k200d. I've yet to use my A2.0 (it was an LBA purchase not too long ago) and was happy with the convenience the A feature offered - flash, true Av, Program mode, etc..... To be able to control the aperture in 1/3 and 1/2 stops and to see 1.8 and 1.7 as a selectable aperture was surprising. I wasn't sure how the k200 would handle going from 1.8 to 1.7, somehow I thought it would skip 1.8 and go straight to 2.0 from 1.7

I want to thank Ibam for loaning this lens. It actually forced me to think of what shots to take other than my usual and what I've already seen.

Anyways, here's to the previous and future users of this Nifty-50. I love seeing other locales and how each of us sees their own little world.Happy Clicks!

Hey guys, I think this project itself is worth more than the lens so I've decided to give it to the Pentax forum...

I've been very impressed by the way everyone has kept the list together, with great spirit, and no real arguments. With no time limit on the project now everyone, and every location should get some time with the 50.

Cheers!

Kevin.
Very cool of you!

That being the case (and the one year time limit no longer being a factor), I'd like to sign up, if that's alright.

Those are some great shots all of you are posting!

Ok I have had this for 6 days and because of a bad back have almost not been able to use it... Tried to go to the 4th of July parade and was unable... so I am sending it on. It looks to me like gokenin is next...

If that is correct Gokenin I need your snail mail to send this off.

A travelin' nifty 50 update

just a quick update on the lens...

Even with my funky back I was able to get a few shots off. (the back has gotten better in the last three days). I will figure out how to post to the flickr account in the next couple of days.

As per a suggestion by Gokenin (who was next on the list in the states), I hand delivered the TNF to Damn Brit yesterday.

It served two purposes... One it gave me a chance to meet Gary's family, (Jess is way to good for him) and I got to hold the beautiful Serafin. The Menace, Human Tornado and I had a great time.

Also it will give the forum a chance to see pics of Serafin taken with the Nifty 50....

Ok, maybe three purposes, as it saved me a trip to the P.O.

Now here a few of the pics I was able to snap... the three close-up/macroish shots are with the raynox 150 attached

And a couple of ISO 6400 shots... It was so dark in this club with no lights actually focused on the front of little stage. Just two pointed at the ceiling.
Iso 6400 1/50 F1.7

And at one point I thought I saw the ghost of Michael watching the band

Nice shots, Gus. The strawberry shot is excellent...juicy! Hope your back is getting better.

Look forward to seeing Gary's pics with the 50.
