Hi all,

I just discovered this thread: very cool! I already have a few fiftys, so I probably don't want to get in line for this one, but I do have a question: is this the only traveling lens? Seems like a very worthwhile idea! If there are no others, I might be interested in putting another traveling lens in circulation...

Sorry everyone,

I have it. My K10D died so I've been shooting my Canons again until I can save for a proper Pentax. I haven't been on the forum a lot because of this. I totally forgot I had the 50. Let me know who's next and I'll get it sent off ASAP.

An update: I got the lens this afternoon and was able to get to all the fungus. I cleaned it up, regreased the aperture ring, checked infinity focus and put it back together. It has a few scratches on the front element but otherwise is clear. The test shots look good. It's ready to be boxed up for the next person. I'll take some shots with it over the weekend.

I took some shots with the lens yesterday and today, and put together a small set of photos here:

Traveling Nifty 50 - a set on Flickr

The fungus was inside the front element, a spot on the second element and inside the rear element. It etched the coatings a little but it was all around the edges, so largely out of the frame, especially on APS-C. The lens has had the aperture ring repair on one on the leaf springs and the other one seems intact. The aperture ring is fairly stiff despite the new grease. It should work if someone needs it but probably better to leave it on A.

Nice shots Dave, havent been to DIA in a while, I like the gargoyle in the suitcase. The pup shots are nice too.

If no one in US speaks up then we will send out to @Arn in Canada to get it going up north.
