In post #633 legacyB4 posted a picture of a Pentax A 50mm F1.7 Serial: 1690383.

As you can see in the photo of the lens I received today the serial number is 1715706. Also note the different rear cap.

I won't do anything with the lens until I hear from either Ibam or gokenin except shoot. It's a very nice lens and I've already been having fun around the house.

P.S. I only received a lens. There were no close up filters in the package.

Since I don't have the flickr info I'll post a couple of shots taken with one of the lenses just screwing around the house. Nothing fancy or special. Just having some fun.

Right, Wayne, the lens you have is the original lens. You can see another picture of it in post #1, with the same serial number, 1715706.

The lens pictured in post #633 is the replacement lens now being circulated in Canada, and I believe it is the one with the closeup filters.

Cool. Thanks for filling me in. Have to admit that I hadn't kept up too much with the happenings in this thread partially because I never expected to ever see the lens. It's good the the original has resurfaced.

Brilliant! Why not have both circulating? Will speed up the process.

my thoughts

I have sent a message to Ibam to see what he wants to do with his lens but last time I talked to him he suggested to me that if it were found that it should continue its journey. I would suggest then that we send his lens over to Netuser over in the Azores and have that one head to Europe and my lens can continue through Canada turning back to the states then out towards the Pacific nations that way the two lens are heading in opposite directions?

Can I suggest that it's probably important for the original lens to reach the maximum number of countries and continents, given that its mission was to go around the world? The second lens could then be used for back-tracking to people who missed out shooting with the original lens, in those countries that it had already visited. Maybe the second lens will also go around the world, too, but for the sake of the record (not to mention the initial intention), completing the original lens' mission is probably more important.

Hi Guys.

I'm glad the original lens has resurfaced .

I'm quite happy for it to either continue on it's journey, or be returned. As long as one lens is doing the rounds I'm most happy.

One shouldn't underestimate this lens it's very good, not to mention well made and compact.

Count me in.

I'm doing a travel in mid-august and all september to Guatemala and I would like to honor my home country with it. If not possible in that window of time, I would like to shoot here in Japan.

Does it matter if I have a M 50/1.7?

the thread is actually about a pair of lens now that are travelling around the world so its actually an A50 that is going around and we can add you to the list so when the lens gets to Japan again you can use it there.

can I suggest that we send your lens over to netuser to start the european leg of the journey and when my copy of the lens has finished moving through canada that it be sent to you as a swap between you and me and that if this journey of your lens ever finishes that it be sent to me in the end?
