If the traveling lens would like to take a detour, or happens to be in the New Jersey area and would like to visit, I would be honored to photograph beautiful downtown Newark. Although it sounds horrendous, Newark has some incredible old architecture and if volunteers are needed I would be more than willing to host a visit from this lens for a week or so. I can offer it a warm home and safe haven, but it would have to pay its own bar tab

I have now had the Nifty-Fifty for a bit over a week and have got the chance to take some photos with it - What a great lens!

I will be taking a few more before I pass it on but here is the first batch. You can view more as a set on Flickr.

Hmmm...i think it would be a pretty cool idea to have a couple 32Gb SDHC cards go around with the lens and all the pictures to be recorded on them instead of everyone having to use their memory and that way it can be easier to document the journey

All of the photos are supposed to get uploaded to the flickr account - Flickr: travelingniftyfifty's Photostream (the password is the name of this forum) There was even a website for awhile The Traveling Nifty Fifty | Under Construction

I tried to run the project for awhile but my personal life (business) got in the way. the problem is that most (75%) of the recipients are quite diligent about the project but the rest completely forget even if they currently have the lens. I should have expected this but when I got busy my own photography was pushed aside and I certainly wasn't going to be nagging people to follow the process. the sad thing is that the process isn't even that complicated. Get the lens, take photos, let the organizer know that it's time to mail it and mail the lens. And then post photos to the nifty fifty flickr with some small captions.

These unexplained stalls are where we run into delays.

I think it would be better time-wise and location-wise to do USA->Mexico->Australia->New Zealand-> Slovenia instead of having the lens go around the world from one continent then go to another one then back to the first

If that was the case it would never leave north America due to number of forum members.

You should consider choosing recipients with good feedback standings in order to insure that they won't dilly dally.

I appreciate the suggestions, but since the start this project has been first come first serve.
We do not plan where it is going to next until folks sign up.

When convenient we may alter the route slightly but it must move around to be fair to all.
The best scenario is that if you see it is coming near to you, jump in and propose to participate, so it can stay in an area for a little bit before moving on.

It is an open project so that everyone is free to participate, I am not about to vet who can or cannot play by any means, new and old, likes, feedback, whatever, doesn't matter.
We are all expected to participate in this forum by certain rules of behavior and the same is expected in this project.

Until now it has worked well, with a few bumps along the way, and we will chalk those up to shippers faults - not members actions.

(And I will reiterate I am looking for someone to take over management of the list )
