I would be in the game in Hong Kong but I'm leaving later this week to go back home to Calgary, Canada. Can we have my location changed to that on the list?

A well-traveled box appeared on my porch this afternoon....

This random dog in a nearby pavilion park could swear he smelled a kangaroo
somewhere nearby... (it was the fifty, straight off the plane from the beautiful
country of Oz...)

(f/2, cropped, 1/1000s ISO 250)

The travellingniftyfifty flickr stream has some really great stuff in it, real
photography, great composition.... I'll try over the next couple days to match it,
or try to come close at least.

Great shot, jsherman999! Would you be able to send me a PM with your approximate location so I can update the list please?

So... it's back in America huh? Sorry ftpaddict (and our Euro brothers and sisters), I guess there'll be a huge wait now.

Done.

Been having some fun with the nifty fifty - the A 50 1.7 is still one of the
funnest lenses you can shoot with, IMO.

I should be done by Sunday, and will plan to send it off to ports unknown
Monday. I'll choose three shots to upload to the flickr group.

Meantime, here's some snaps:

We just got a new fence a few weeks ago, and one of our cats likes
to walk the perimeter like a DMZ guard:

Here's a fun place for kid's & dogs to romp during summer concerts (Lake Harriet
Bandshell)

f/8

And the nearby rock garden:

f/2.2

Of course, need to keep everything watered! (f/1.7)

Sign up please.

Nice shots so far everyone. I'd love to sign up. I know the list is long, but perhaps I may get it on its way back to Toronto. -=drj

Probably really huge wait.
Could not understand why the choice for the States at this time instead of Europe since either way the lens at some time would have to get back to the US ....

But it's ok by the "rules" so we will wait :ugh:

Two things:

#1 J; how do you get your pictures to look so sharp? It's a very distinct look I've only seen in your photography.

#2 lbam would like to get the lens back by Dec 29; so could we hurry it up a bit?

He did say some time ago, that the lens should keep going, and that he reserved the right to change his mind. I expressed concern several times on this point and was told to relax, and to not worry about it, so...

The last time I calculated, it was likely to get back to lbam in June 2011, or something like that. Heaven knows what it might be now, but as long as he doesn't mind and people are having a good time, I guess it's OK.

Ibam, if you're reading this, I can send you my personal copy of the A 50 1.7
to use until 2011! That way "Nifty" doesn't have to come off vacation!

I'll actually try to get Nifty in the mail tomorrow or Monday for sure.

-Jay

These were K20D Jpeg on 'bright' setting, +2 fine sharpness. I think a couple
were sharpened one more in picasa3 with the slider moved way down. That's it,
nothing special in PP.

With larger apertures, I almost always bracket focus, though - focus fast until
I see focus track/lock red light, slower until focus confirmation (green hex,) snap,
go all the way though to 'end' of green hex, snap, go back to 'middle' of green
hex in throw, snap. One of the three will be spot-on, usually all three are sharp
enough.

That's a great tip. thanx! Lovely photos from it.

I love that it's now on my continent. I may actually get a hand at it this calendar year.
