OK looks like its time for another checkup did the lens make it to mi2nc ? the last sighting was one month ago today when it was sent out? has it gotten there and moved on without any posting? has it gone missing? whats up?

I keep slipping down the list.
I am now 27th on the list to play with this elusive lens.
At 5 weeks each I should get it on ..... October 12, 2012.

mi2nc has informed me that he still has the lens and asked me whom to send it to next. I will be sending him this modified list of US members waiting for the lens and ask him to find someone to send it to ASAP, and again ask him to post status info to this thread directly.

Maybe there are other thoughts about how to get the lens quickly back into circulation. Perhaps everyone should let the next receiving member know about the procedure including turnaround expectations, since it seems clear that assuming everyone reads the thread is a mistake.

I reorganized the list today according to geographical areas.
Let's finish off the USA list first then pass it north to the Canadians.
From there it could go east to UK, Ireland and Europe.
Let's not get too much ahead of ourselves and see how we stand after that.

For the love of all things holy post a reply here when you receive it and when you are passing it on to the next member!
Please don't keep it for an inordinate period of time; be considerate to the others on the list and send it off to the next in line in a week or so.

I can only assume that mi2nc still has it, but I have not heard anything from him in over a month. Since I have been worried also, I sent him a PM yesterday asking for a status but he has not answered me yet.

I think the problem arose when the one year time limitation was lifted, and people relaxed about things. Just letting it drift along for an unspecified time meant that nobody felt any urgency to move the lens along at a fast pace, so it's not really a surprise that these hold-ups (which happened occasionally, before) are now practically the norm.

The project was a potential publicity boost for the Pentax community, but I fear that possible outcome has all but disappeared now, which is a bit of a pity.

Noone has posted to the Flickr photo stream since Aug 30, 2009. I could not figure out again who it was that posted the photos of the horse and ended w/the pic of the Pizza; even tho I responded in the flickr stream to the last pic based on a notification here I believe; I guess I'm just being impatient and didn't read all the posts the last 3 or 4 pages to figure-out who that was.

But whoever that was, could you please PM me the latest password that you had? Or if you forwarded it to the person you mailed the lens to next, could you give me that person's forum handle so I can check with them if they changed the password? Actually, anyone who has or changed the password since August 2009, could you please PM it to me? I would like to add some photos to the public stream.

To be frank, some observations. We, and dare I say really we NA'ers [?], aren't making a very good showing of this. Between ....
1) Not staying ontop of sending the flickr stream password to the next lens recipient so they can post pics; so none of us have posted pics all winter.
2) losing the lenscap. Much thanx to the member who supplied the Minolta cap; I replaced that w/a Pentax cap off my 50/1.7. The Minolta cap is now protecting my 50/1.7 but if you need or would like that Minolta cap back I'd be happy to drop it in and envelope and send it back to you. PM me your address.
3) Holding the lens for extended periods. I felt very guilty for holding it 2 weeks because I wanted to do all my shooting in NYC, and timing was I wasn't going to be in the city until an additional week after I received it. I'd read the same earlier from another member about holding it for a 2 week turn-around who in their same post mentioned how well our Aussie friends passed it from one another, each holding it 1 week or in some cases maybe 2 days. In that light I [we could] feel even more guilty.
4) Now it's not to be found and the member who has it isn't responding? Granted, that person may be away. But surely it begs the question shouldn't it be anyone who will be away's responsibility that they make sure to pass it along before they leave? If he's not responding due to illness, my apologies.

I've said it before in regards of another scare we had and I'll say it again. If it doesn't show-up within another couple of weeks I will re-start this initiative with my own copy, and send it to gokenin or miserere, who have an undeniable commitment to the forum and by extension this initiative. Unfortunately if I do that, it will once again be carrying a Minolta cap unless the owner of that needs it back!

After a few days of detective work I was able to find a phone number for mi2nc and I just spoke with him. That's the good news. The not so good news is that he is not sure where the lens is at the moment. It's inappropriate to get into the details in a public thread, but I told him there are a lot of people who are unhappy and worried and asked him to get back to this thread with a status, and he said he would do so.

Let's hope for a good outcome.

Well I dont know about the flickr account but if it was created by Ibram couldnt he simply create a new password for the account since he might be the orginal creator of the account? I have already offered to send my A50 F1.7 out before as a replacement lens and I will again offer it should I not hear anything by Penataxian Day (this saturday by the way the 17th) I will take some shots with it and then contact Misere and send it on its way as a replacement for the original. Let me know. and I will will keep an eye out to see if the lens reappears.
