It's time to take stock. First, I want to thank everyone for your time and effort. Thank you.
I would also like to point out the xs400. One of my options was also in sepia tones.
Michail_P - for a fantastically beautiful sky.
Pelto - stars - a godsend.)
Hmasias, you practically repeated my version.

But the absolute winner .... graeme83.
You have given up on futile attempts to brighten the frame and then fight the artifacts that appear.
But you have created an atmosphere of contemplation and melancholic reverie that requires long-term exposure.
Your version is cinematic and complete. The story is well illustrated.
The spotlight unobtrusively shifts our attention to the figure, and we begin to consider the details, and not the whole picture as a whole. Bravo...

And finally, my own version.

Thanks, I couldn't help but keep my version a bit dark with the cooler blue tones remaining prevalent. It seems like you weren't entirely happy with the result but to me the base exposure was just perfect for the scene, even more so with your added narrative. I like dark and moody, and regularly shoot with that in mind with my own work so it was only natural for me to embrace it.
Thanks for a great image to work on and I am really glad you liked my edit.
I will try and find something worthy for the next round tomorrow.
