Care to expand on that at all Dave?

I feel like I've got it well under control, however when I read of someone with your experience 'starting to figure it out...' I can't help but wonder if there's another level of depth that I'm yet to discover.

well - with a DSLR and a fully-manual lens, in 'M' mode, the camera doesn't meter until you tell it to do so (for me, I use the green button), so it meters once for the button push, and that's it....

on a mirrorless, no matter the lens, it is constantly metering unless you use some form of exposure lock (AE-L or a half-push on the shutter) - that's what I'm getting better at using....

Ah... understood. I have come across a few 'green button' references. Cheers.

I got over the idea of selling I don't "need" the da* 55 as it would not get that much use (20-40mm is my happy place) and, for portraits I have the 35mm limited, 35mm f2, 40mm limited, 50mm f1.8, several fast vintage 50/55s and the 70mm limited. My wish list is the da*55mm and the FA 100mm f2.8 macro, but neither are urgent so my wish list is gathering dust after a heavy shaking (this year I got the 15ltd, 35mm f2 and the stonking 20-40mm limited)

I mainly sell off duplicate focal lengths and lenses that just don't strike joy in me to use...

Me too, and I love the ones in question so they are going nowhere there are a few things I have sold and regretted, my K30, an Olympus stylus 1s, a pancolor. I needed to raise funds but the thought of them still hurts, so, NO MORE SALES!!!

At first I missed the “fully manual lens”. Then I thought it is possible to separate focus and metering even with an auto lens, isn’t it? I wonder if that might be useful and/or if I should investigate it… hmmm

I am the same, leave the sales up to my wife once I am gone, except for the LX and 50mm 1.2 that is going in the coffin with me

I have been smashed at work this week and it has really taken the wind out of my photographic sails.

But it's the weekend now. I promise to do better

I had the FA 100 macro for a while but found it too big and heavy with quite slow auto focus so I sold it and went back to the M 100/4 macro and Tamron 90/2.5 macro which produce as good or better images. I've also got the D FA 50/2.8 macro and DA 35 macro limited if I want AF. The DA* 55, on the other hand, is on the list.

Cool. 8) I’ve been looking for you…

This week (and the preceding weekend) I learned: COVID outbreaks on a ward take A LOT of time to manage.

Good news I mentioned yesterday though is that it’s looking increasingly possible (even likely) that we dodged a bullet. Not 100% yet (delta gonna delta…), but hopeful.
