There's a chance that is a very, very elderly female Roseate Skimmer.

BTW, you have one of the very best dragonfly sites at your side: Arizona Dragonflies

Yes, I have exchanged emails with Dr. Deviche. Great site. I pester him too much for IDs. Mexican Amberwing below. I think you’re right about the Roseate Skimmer. The white racing stripe and the wing markings were confusing me.

Great thread! I hope I can learn something here about photographing and identifying those beautiful insects.

I have most certainly posted all of those in insect threads and elsewhere before

Common Darter (?)

Longer session with this one, I started standing, sat down and in the end I was lying flat on the ground

Keeled Skimmer, with the D-FA 100 WR. An example of the "stand back and crop" technique.

White-legged Damselfly, with the HD 35 macro, point blank. Newly emerged (teneral) damselflies will often let you get this close.

Do you use an extension tube with your DA*200, Terry?

I notice that the professionals' "rig of choice" appears to be a 300/4 and (usually) a 36mm tube, whichever system they are bought into.

No, no teleconverter. My DA* 200mm is extremely sharp at f5.6 and above so I can crop quite a bit. Plus, the K3iii sensor is also very good. At the Riparian Preserve where I visit regularly, I can get within 7-10 feet of the dragonflies if I move slowly. Roseate Skimmers and Mexican Amberwings are numerous. I saw a Great Pondhawk a few days ago but I couldn’t get it to land. Blue Dashers and Striped Saddlebags are also prevalent. Unfortunately, the area is lacking in damselflies.
