No surprise, I love the DA 40 XS on the K-1. A week of business and pleasure travel carrying this combo in a very small shoulder bag, I was able to take many great pictures in all sorts of conditions, including being an impromptu wedding photographer!

The HD 16-50 PLM is a revelation. I am deeply impressed with it. A substantial thinning of my herd will ensue.

I, on the other hand, have been decidedly less impressive

It is a great little lens, so easy to carry and nice field of view.

the 16-50 has been a surprise to me, I should have known better, the quality of the Pentax designed glass over the last couple of years has been stellar and this lens continues that tradition. The bokeh and resolution are top notch and the minimum focus distance makes it almost macro like. Now what could you possibly want to thin from the herd Sandy ?

A *lot* actually:

All the 645 kit except the body and the Schneider-Kreuznach Cinelux-Ultra 125/2.0
All the full frame zooms, except the 28-105 and 150-450 (I only use the latter on the K-3 III anyway)
My two Takumars
All the K series primes, except the 28/2.0
All the M series primes
All the A series primes, except the *135/1.8 and maybe the 50/1.2
All the FA series primes (except maybe the 135/2.8)
At least one of my four third party full frame lenses could also go

My crop system is fine. There is only one telephoto zoom which could go....

From my 3 manual zooms M75-150 has been most comfortable to use and lens is pretty good. I'm quite taken with some of the shots I've taken this month. Still not a fan of zooms anyway. I have perfectly good pair of feets to move about.

My LBA is still quite nicely under control. I'm more and more convinced that I have a decent vintage line up and there is no need to add lenses to it. I could sell some, but no really need to do that either. What I do like to get are the very best new DFA* and DFA ltd primes, but they are so expensive that I'm not in hurry with those and need to give Pentax enough time to come out with them anyway. So DFA*50/1.4 and DFA21ltd on my short list ATM. But they have to wait as there is no work ATM due to Covid and therefore no money to spend. Also I really would like to buy a surf van once I have money to spend again, so might be few years before I buy next lens.

OMG that is a rather severe thinning, I was expecting some APS-C lenses to go, but this is way more :0

Hell no; my “old” 21 limited is doing just fine, thanks very much

My new-to-me DA70/2.4 is a great lens to work with. I should've bought it a long time ago I really like it at wide apertures so I have barely used it stopped down above f/5.6 so far. The only downside is the long mfd but apart from that...
Another thought is that now I own the DA15, DA21, DA35 macro and the recent DA70/2.4. I have never considered myself a collector but now only one lens is missing from the list... OTOH, I don't think the gap between 35 and 50 mm is worth filling... We'll see

Just a thought, the 49mm thread size with the 70mm means you could try one of the Pentax close up lenses to overcome the MFD issue, I find them very helpful and no noticeable degradation in image quality

Good point! Today in the morning I realized that I own a +3 close-up filter (Heliopan - nothing exciting, but it does the job). Expect some close-ups further this month

Hd da 70 plus Raynox. I don’t know which ones, but I’m guessing the m-250.

The M28/2.8 is a lens I've been affectionate with for a while. I love the rendering, it's sharp and I'm really comfortable using the M series. At this point I am feeling like the field of view is not suiting itself to situations as easily as other focal lengths and I have to admit to myself that my heart truly belongs to the M35/2.8. Maybe that's only because I know what's out there. I will need to revisit the FA* 24/2 I bought last year and failed to successfully Single. It is wider, but also faster, and with auto focus to give my astigmatism a rest. Next month I might break out one of my weird third-party zooms, for a little variety...

I'm happy to be back in the game with you all.

The Auto-Takumar 85mm f/1.8
It’s a bit of a black sheep, in terms of overall condition versus the majority of other lenses I own, but it is absolutely sublime to shoot with. The cleaning marks/scratches on the front have no notable impact on the lens’ performance - granted it seems to be prone to flare but I think it would be regardless.
Focus is buttery smooth and it renders beautifully. It’s a little softer wide open, when veering away from the centre-most point, and stopped down it transitions superbly.
Lot of appreciation for this 1960’s lens.

I now find myself with the 21, 35, 40 and 70 so may have to look out for a 15 to complete the set. I really like them all and am having a fun month with the 70.
