It’s a cool photo. Nicely caught steam, good composition, and nice B&W processing

halfway through the month - time to report on your lens of choice so far....

And no surprises from me

If you have an APSC Pentax camera you should have this lens; that’s what these last nine and a half months have said to me

I am shooting (not as much as I’m supposed to this month) the SMC FA 43 f1.9 and not loving it. I don’t dislike the lens, but I’m also not in love with it. The flare resistance is weak, it has a lot of CA, and bokeh that is hard to decide if it is pleasant or distracting. I own a lot of lenses in this general ballpark: DA* 55, FA 50 f1.4, F 50 f1.7, SMC DA 40 etc. I’ve liked the DA 40 in the past so I don’t think the extra 3mm is throwing me off even on apsc. I have taken shots with the lens I’ve liked, but I’m not in love with it so far. Of the FA limiteds this is my least favorite so far - on apsc. On my Sony I think this 43mm focal length is better suited to my eye but since I like the da 40 on the KP I can’t say that’s certain.

Congratulations, I really like this picture, for the lighting and composition

I felt the same way about the 43 - I didn't see where it was that much better over the 40 Limited, and certainly didn't see that it was worth the premium over the 40 Limited....

I sold mine off almost as soon as the month with the lens was over.....

I think the FA 43 Limited only really comes to life on full frame/film. But for me it is still niche lens - and a niche I'm still trying to find

I mainly keep it for sentimental reasons. My 31 and 77 would be lonely without their older brother.

Shooting the 43 on k1 this month. It's a good snapshot lens which is what I have entirely been using it for. It's pretty easy to get very mundane photos back, but when everything clicks just right, it is capable of magic. Pixie's are known to be temperamental creatures and the dust in this 43 came from a particularly dynamic one I imagine.

I still haven't figured out the K-120mm. It is sharp and renders colors nicely, but I'm struggling with the composition with a tele lens this month.

My 31 I’ve owned the longest. The 77 was bought around that same time brand new. The 43 is a recent addition. I’m just not sure how it fits with my other fast lenses in that rough focal length.

With the range of 40 mm lens I own, I don’t plan on getting the 43mm. The FA77mm is another keeper, proven over 5 years of ownership. Ounce for ounce, it keeps my desire for the new DFA 85mm at bay.

I will post the image for the 17th tomorrow morning, no time tonight

I owned the A* 85 f1.4 in pristine condition. I sold it and bought my 31 and 77. The 77 has virtually the same optical formula- and I couldn’t be happier. The D FA 85 may be better technically but the spirit of the mighty A* lives on in the 77.

The M28/2.8 is a lens I've been affectionate with for a while. I love the rendering, it's sharp and I'm really comfortable using the M series. At this point I am feeling like the field of view is not suiting itself to situations as easily as other focal lengths and I have to admit to myself that my heart truly belongs to the M35/2.8. Maybe that's only because I know what's out there. I will need to revisit the FA* 24/2 I bought last year and failed to successfully Single. It is wider, but also faster, and with auto focus to give my astigmatism a rest. Next month I might break out one of my weird third-party zooms, for a little variety...

I'm happy to be back in the game with you all.
This one is on my shortlist for Monovember...

Choosing a lens this next month… hummm. For everyday day after day shots I find I’m less likely to get something interesting without narrowing the view either by using macro or a telephoto perspective. But maybe I’m just too busy to really stretch my photographic brain so to speak.

This is a tough one.

I have a manual Sigma (?) 28mm Macro that I could use. I also have a big and heavy SMC-A 28-135mm Macro which I am not sure I ever SIC'd.
There is the outside chance that I'll find some used glass during my planned road trip next week.
