Not sure that this catch wasn't too big, the heron is shaking the fish, backlit.

More fine shots Tom. The water spray with the heron is very dramatic. Looks like breeding plumage too?

Now some sea birds. Always a privilege to see albatross. Buller's Albatross - three of one taking off, then airborne and another enjoying its catch. (These are from a boat trip off Bruny Island, Tasmania - that is, an island, off the island State of the island continent.)

I haven't either, but if I do, I hope I have a camera ready.

Piping Plover

Great Black-backed Gull, the gull flew in from off shore, landed, gulped this fish down, and flew back out. I guess it was too big to eat while at sea.

Canada Geese are water birds that quite honestly settle down all over town. This is taken in the local bird sanctuary along the river.

Double Crested Cormorants, I was in my kayak and actually paddled around where they were to get this silhouette, it was better than I imagined, I must have got too close and they took off right after this.

Green Heron. Last year I often saw three juvenile green herons in this same area, this is the first green heron I've seen this year, I wonder if this is one of the three? Even though they can be here all year, I believe some do migrate.

Spotted Sandpiper - I think - my bird in flight shot needs work but is included for identification purposes...
