Also, beautiful photos in this thread, Seems that black and white suits these types of photos much better than colour. There's something about colour for these that only works if they are old.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.Bbluesman's shots directly above, particularly "Life Magazine" and "Close To His Heart", are to me strong evidence that that's not the case.

But it's all personal preference anyway and, unless you're shooting B&W film, entirely up to the photographer how he wants to present it. (even then, I suppose you could colorize the B&W...).
