I rarely travel anywhere epic, yeah its nice where I live but with Bailey getting old we don't cover the ground like we use to. I was finding the shots I took were purely going through the motions. To stop myself getting stale I have always tried to diversify. First it was vintage glass, then infra red. Now though I have hit upon one that should keep me going forever, film! The IQ of the images isn't a patch on the digital but with the film its all about taking and making rather than the final image. This has the effect of carrying a more discerning eye across to digital. I spend time composing film shots because each one costs money and I find I am doing the same with digital. My latest bit of fun was 30yo, poorly stored ilford fp4, run through a Fed-3a Soviet rangefinder from the sixties and developed using wildly modified times (iso 125 film shot at 64 then developed at 250+10%).

Grain city lolol

Incredibly satisfying and quite cathartic, especially the developing. Having something alternative to shoot, especially something cheap is a great way to stay fresh

Those are fabulous photos! Really excellent feel. Perfectly composed, especially the second one.

Half time report, well, I started on the 40mm limited, then I dropped it. It is away being assessed as we speak. Thankfully the 35mm limited offered to cover the month for its poorly brother. The 35mm is a peach, end of story. Its sharp, close focus is great and it looks good on the KP. As for the 40mm. It was a great lens. My thinking was that the moment it hit the floor it was gone! So, I needed to replace it. The cheapest option was to pay to have it fixed. If that isn't possible it will be an FA43mm, but that is the same money as the DA*55mm f1.4 which is way higher up the wish list, having been sat atop it for some considerable time. We will just have to see what happens on that one.

In the meanwhile, here are some from the 35 that didn't make the cut

Check out the "what three words" address in a carving on the image to see where this was taken. (I only just noticed that. Talk about being set in stone lol)

given the choice between the DA* 55/1.4 and the FA 43 - I'd take the 55/1.4 all week long and twice on Sunday..... love that lens....

A vicariously pleasing moment for me just now.

Some weeks ago my father posted that he had caught his KP nastily in a door; didn’t work; couldn’t remove the lens… since then all his photos have been with his LUMIX super-zoom thing. Good, but definitely lacking.

This evening I was scrolling Facebook, and saw he has posted a photo of a kingfisher … that is *so not* the Lumix, I thought. Clicked, and saw his post describing how he had finally taken it to a shop he trusts, and the guy removed the lens, said the camera was fine, and he’d check out the lens.

Also happily, said bashed lens was not his 55-300, with which he shot the aforementioned kingfisher.

So I’m pleased for him. It was very sad, having after a time persuaded him to replace his aperture block stuffed KS-1 with a KP, to know it was borked. Happier now.

(Just wanted to share a Pentaxian good news story)

Well, the repair estimate was £350 ($426 US) so it ain't getting fixed. Plan b, to have acquired a DA*55 f1.4 by Christmas
