Yesterday we made the appointment to have Bailey pts. We have cancelled it because we are not ready. He is firmly in the red zone but we just can't let him go, yet! How do people who have had a number of dogs go through this every time! Anyway, when I posted yesterday I meant to add this supplementary picture of the Saxon church just below the headland (most of you have seen It before but it is too epic not to photograph.) @Riggomatic mentioned expecting to see an ancient ship sailing into the bay, well there are viking graves in this churchyard, it really is that old.

Thanks for the lovely comments on the image. They are always massively appreciated. I am going to comment more. I know I keep saying this but I am! I love the shots on here. The image quality from concept, through composition to the finished image really is first rate.

No rain at all in the Adelaide Hills for the last couple of days, and it has been a pretty wet winter so far.

The floods are 1000km away. I do wonder how Raf is faring, on the other hand....

From european perspective it's hard to grasp the size of Australia. Finland is pretty large country around here and still from south to north is only little over 1000km. In Australia it's just a distance between two major cities in the same corner of the nation. So when news say that Australia is flooding there and burning here, it's pretty hard to understand that it's usually still pretty far away from our members

I was in Darwin for a conference the weekend before last. It's over 3000km north of Adelaide.
Perth is over 2000km west as the crow flies.
Cairns is about 3000km northeast.
Sydney is a mere 1300km due east.

I always chuckle when I meet a European who tells me they intend to visit the US for only a week or two, yet plan to take a road trip to see the well know places like New York City, Chicago, The Rocky Mountains, Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Florida.
As I mentally prepare my itinerary for a trip to Oz and NZ in 2023, I realize that time and distance will force me to manage my expectations even more than a budget will..

When I lived in Europe, i enjoyed having so many great cities and sights relatively close.

no need to cringe when you say it... it's just a different perspective....

when I was younger, I lived in west Texas, nowhere near any of the state lines... but still a solid six hour drive from home to Dallas (which isn't really Texas, according to folks in west Texas)....

I've spent time driving across much of the US and it's just spread out all over....

I'd love to visit Australia and NZ, but I can see the twilight coming on those dreams of travel...

I sincerely hope your itinerary can include a brief stay in the Adelaide Hills. Free bed and board, and a guided tour of the local wineries (and my cellar).

It's a deal! I'll be there with bells on, as long as your cellar tour doesn't include a cask of Amontillado.

My name is not Usher.
I do have some bottles of Amontillado. No casks.

oh, there's plenty of rage....

the dying of the light is my own and advancing years is its name....

on one hand, I'm quite happy to remain here (and here is my own little plot of land, in the middle of nowhere) and not be concerned with travel any longer....

and then there's the rage against the dying of the light and the shortening of the thread of time to go and do.....

such is the human condition...
