IT's been a tumultuous week, but once I recovered from "The Crud" I was able to get out and get a few pix..I'm starting to get the hang of the DFA 150-450, and it is a joy to use.

No, you wouldn't, you will just end up with a worse case of LBA

Seriously, though, it's an easy lens to use, but mastery is a challenge due to my own poor technique. For instance, I now use TAv mode so I am never below f8 or 1/500 second.

I’m still shooting and each day I try to catch up on commenting. My dad is here for a week. It may be tough to take the time but I will try.

Each day? You’re really good then. I tend to do it all in a weekly (or so) burst xP

Well…I was. But my dad has been here visiting this past week. I have shots but not much commenting and I haven’t posted my shots for days.

True. I have a large collection of K, M, and A primes but every now and then I ponder liquidating them in favor of some DFA zooms and actually using some of the camera's modern features. This is one of those times. Thanks for humoring me. 🙂

If I knew that selling off my K,M, and A primes, and a few zooms would fully fund the purchase of this lens, I would do it.

For the eagles I have been watching, I would also want a TC, their nest is still far away and I would like even more zoom.

Doesn't the size and weight bother you? How do you carry your kit when you're out? Also, do you know if the HD TC vignettes much when using this lens?

I wouldn't carry this combo as a walk around kit, but when my intent is birding/wildlife, it's the right combination for the task at hand.

The Cotton Carrier Skout is my preferred carrying method for this combo on the 3 kilometer round trip hike to the site through easy terrain. If I were going for a longer hike on rough terrain, I'd probably use my Cotton Carrier G3. I put the harness mount on the camera body and the tripod mount on the lens foot.

As for vignetting, it is not of great concern, since birding/wildlife photos are rarely about filling the frame, there is almost always some cropping to better compose the image after the fact.

Sorry I disappeared - I've also got the crud. Not quite back at 100%, I may try to jump back in. Will for sure be back in for December either way.

I don't know if the TC would vignette, I doubt it since I haven't noticed a vignetting problem with the knock-off TC's I've used in the past with other telephoto lenses.

The HD DA 1.4x isn’t full frame on many lenses. The “knock off” units are almost always ff as most were designed in film era or were units used across multiple brands - some of which offered ff so the base design started as ff.

Thanks for the tip. I have a film-era Pentax compatible Tamron 2x TC. I will try that out with e DFA 150-450mm before I return it when the rental period ends. Hopefully the weather clears this afternoon so I can visit the eagle's nesting site and see how the images come out.
