thank you Minimonster for keeping this going. I think I'll be giving October a rest. I'm going focus on film so a daily shot won't be happening right now. Got the chemicals, dark bag etc so hopefully this weekend I'll try my hand at processing. I haven't gotten the equipment to digitally scan them yet but when I do I''ll try and share the results.

Color or BW film? How do you intend at this point to scan your negatives? I shoot film but really slowly, so it'll be a while before I have enough rolls to process and scan (C41).

Q: Color or BW film?
A: Right now BW, 120 on the Yashica 12. Eventfully I'd like to do some color. I have about 4 rolls of 20 year old 35mm that I'll shoot. The rolls weren't initially stored in the refrigerator so they may be too degraded by now. But it will be a fun experiment.

Q:How do you intend at this point to scan your negatives?
A: I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos on this. I saw where many people are getting good results using a digital camera, tripod or copy stand, 70mm or better macro lenses, a 95 CR rated light panel, and negative holder. I have to stay low cost right now. I checked out old engager negative carriers but their prices seem to have gone up almost to new prices from Lomography DigitaLIZA . Negative Supply Basic is a good company but pricey. But I think I'm going to go with this type of setup instead of a scanner ie Epson V600.

"I shoot film but really slowly, so it'll be a while before I have enough rolls to process and scan (C41)" -- It's great you're shooting film. Take your time and enjoy the journey. Do post your shots when you get to that point.

I just bought a Holga N120 for the upcoming Holga Week Event. It's just a cheap plastic camera, but David Burnett carried one a lot and shot some nice atmospheric images. It helped keep his photography experiences fresh, creative, and inventive.

...Lomography DigitaLIZA...
I've dabbled in BW and color negative film off and on for years, and of all the effort and energy it takes to get images out of the endeavor, it seems scanning has always been the part I hated. Everything seems so labor intensive and involves so much waiting on the equipment to work. I started with an Epson flatbed scanner and thoroughly hated it. It took forever, required waiting on each individual frame to scan, and the film holders were fiddly. Then I found a Pacific Image scanner that could accommodate an entire uncut roll of 35mm film for fairly cheap, so I bought one. It worked fairly well, except sometimes the film wouldn't load properly and I'd end up with scanned half-frames and I'd have to redo the entire roll. I was still OK with it until it just stopped working one day.

Now I'm thinking of picking up a DigitaLIZA Max kit that includes backlight, frame holder, and cell phone copy stand and using my phone to scan negatives. Setup seems fairly quick, and the process very quick, plus I should be able to feed through an uncut roll. It's not too expensive and the few reviews I've watched/read have been favorable. Have you seen this, and what's your take if so?

It does seem that is one of cons to film photography when processing.

I have seen this setup in YouTube videos and on Amazon. It looks promising and the cost is a plus. My only hesitation is my cell phone IQ is lacking and I want as good a copy as possible. Also, I'm focusing on medium format (120) and the DigitaLIZA Max kit doesn't offer medium format scanning. But if you're only shooting 35 mm and your happy with your camera IQ it's probably a good choice. I think it definitely saves time.
I'm going to try my Tamron 80-210 macro set at 80mm and shoot at f/8 or f/11 on my tripod. I just need the light panel and negative carriers. I'd love to make or get a copy stand. let me know what you decide about the DigitaLIZA Max kit or any other system you get or run across on YouTube.

I feel like y'all are going to make me buy a medium format film camera. I've always hesitated because of the chemical disposal and thinking I had to buy a special scanner.

I found this forum where our film questions can be answered by those with experience.

Flickr notifications seem to be at least partly broken since last night - comments definitely aren't triggering a notification.

Dilution is the solution to pollution, especially in this case since you're not really using that much chemistry. If you're shooting in BW, you can develop in Caffenol and you'll have nothing but biodegradables to pour down the sink. That's what I did for quite a while. For C41, you can reuse your chemistry for multiple rolls. When you're ready to trash it, pour your developer through a wad of steel wool. That's supposed to extract some/most of the silver.
