#4 Restocking

Before I went to work myself, I walked through our village, hunting for men at work. I shot this truck driver, restocking the local supermarket. It was a cold morning, with a setting sun.

Rense, I agree, the atmosphere is good, the technical difficulties in this photo also just points out the character of a casual snapshot of a working girl in action, so to speak!
Thank you Georg. Especially for you I added a second photo of a working girl. Your will is my command....

Why is that, Thomas? Don't people work in your surroundings???

#5 Ferry

On the way to my daily work, I have to cross the river Rhine. There's no bridge, so I have to use the ferry. This is one of the men working on that ferry. It is a bit unsharp, so I have to try this one again, I guess....

#6 Cashier

This is number 6, to complete the first week of shooting Man at work. It is the cashier of a local supermarket, shot through the window. She constantly watched me, but at the moment she was busy with a client, I found some moments to make a series of photos. I myself like all the colours in this one.

Feel free to comment!

#8 "Hout op Maat"

I thought I'd try a different approach, after some comments on my pictures in Javiers thread Capture a stranger street style. This week I will do some B/W shots (or conversions).

This is the driver of a small truck which passed by. Meyer Orestor 135 at f/8.

#9 Anachronism: shepherd with cell phone....

This one is shot the day before yesterday. It is the shepherd of the Ederheide, "watching over his flock..." (I posted him in the POTW too ). I probably watched him some 40 or 50 minutes and at least half of the time he was playing with his cell phone, like here.....

I was going to suggest that this theme is just made for b&w and indeed these latest shots are just gorgeous. For me they have more emotional impact and the lack of colour helps me focus on the subject without distraction.

Which is not in any way to denigrate your colour shots, meneer, because they too are full of interest and skillfully done. For my taste, some of the shots could benefit from some cropping of extraneous material.

A lovely series and a project worthy of an exhibition or book further down the track. It's a real celebration of the ordinary which encourages us to open our eyes to the humanity in honest daily work.

Wombat, thank you for your kind words and compliments. I myself like the B&Ws better too, but then, for for instance the lady in the shop, I would regret loosing the colours.... We'll see, much to come, I hope, and I can decide any moment to do colour or B&W I think .

Thanks again,
Rense
