Men at work through the year

After the encouragment of several of you earlier this week, I decided to make a long series of photos of working people. As mentioned before, I am not so much of a people shooter, but the idea of photographing people just doing their thing is somehow quite exciting to me.

So, I am planning to shoot "Men at work" for the coming year. It's probably a bit much to add a photo every day, but I think right now 5 photos a week must be possible. I will keep to the title of the thread, but I will not restrict myself too much, so I allow myself to shoot women, and "work" will not only be "paid work". Hope you will enjoy. And please, if you have comments or tips, don't hessitate, because this project is - besides fun - also a learning project for me .

Here is #1, shot with my M135mm, f/4, ISO 800. Planting a hedge. It was raining, so I don't envy them....

The rain adds a bit of sentiment to the image though. I like it.

Another day of rain made me decide to do the second shoot indoors. So, this morning I went to the main building of the Wageningen University. So many possibilities to make candids of people. I don't think this was the last time I went shooting here! I made quite a series of this lady, cleaning the floor. This one I like especially, because it shows her politeness, letting some of the students pass by. The man in the background is just opening the WUR Shop, indicating it is about 8:30 in the morning.

Shot with Auto Chinon 50mm f1.4 at ISO 800, f=2, and 1/20s

Nice idea Rense! Like JC said, this is going to be a tour in Netherlands.

In June I will come to Hague for a business trip, so maybe I will catch you doing some 'paid work'

Thanks Kurt. We will see where I end up doing this . When you come to The Hague, please wear your mask, otherwise I won't recognise you!

Den Haag is a nice place. I was fortunate to be there on the Queen's birthdate.
That was also the day I walked into my first Starbucks and decided their coffee was way too expensive and tasted like diluted crap - at least what I think diluted crap would taste like.

#3: Celebrating!

Dave and Georg, thank you both for your words!

Yesterday, we celebrated the birthday of both my father and my mother. We went bowling in the afternoon and had a pancake in one of the nearby restaurants. We had fun together, and this celebration gave me an opportunity to shoot the waitresses in the restaurant. Although the waitress in the selected photo is out of focus (my niece is (sharp) in the foreground, she's the eldest of my sister), the photo gives quite a good impression of the atmosphere. And, not quite deliberately , I think the shot has some depth that compensates for the unsharpness. Curious what you think!

Again, shot with the Chinon 50mm, which I like more and more....

Rense, I agree, the atmosphere is good, the technical difficulties in this photo also just points out the character of a casual snapshot of a working girl in action, so to speak!
