The local Herald-Sun tour started from Federation Square last week. K-1, Tamron 28-75mm f2.8, Tamron 70-200mm f2.8:

The riders individually did a 2km sprint finishing outside the casino.

On the last day at Kinglake, Tour de France champion Chris Froome's Sky colleague Ian Stannard (fourth in this pic) won the stage, but Australia's Orica-Scott team held on to take out the whole race. I thought, what if they come around the corner and I'm not ready? I needn't have worried - you hear then see the two helicopters for the TV coverage, then a motorcade of police and officials clears the way.

The fanfare that comes with bicycle races is quite mental.

Last year and the year before the Tour de France passed through locally (in Switzerland.. I still don't really understand why, you'd think France is large enough!) and you basically had an advertising train, that took about half an hour to pass, with people throwing small gifts off and out of the cars. And then an hour later or so the bikes then came along and were past in a blink of an eye, shortly followed by the cars that seemed to be having their own race!

Didn't really get any photos to write home about though.

Much harder to tell when a mountain bike race is coming when I'm out there all by myself!

Heck, I was out on the local mountain for scheduled trail maintenance last month and ended up walking into the middle of a cyclocross race! Had no idea that was even happening when we set off from the parking lot in the morning

Found this beautiful 70's Peugeot last summer in a window of a restaurant in a small village in the mountains on the coast of Liguria in Italy.

Nah, that would be fun though. Just a lowly 10spd. Demo'd a few bikes with 11spd and the chain kept jumping on the cassette so I stayed with 10
