When diagnosed with cancer in '96 he was introduced to EPO, which is used to keep the red blood cell count high during chemotherapy.
And we know what happened from there. A relatively modest cyclist (three Did Not Finishes and a 36th place in the Tour de France) then went on to win seven in a row.
He was doping before he got ill telling the doctors in the hospital about HGH and other stuff including EPO. Not the only doper out there, but it was the sociopathic methods he used which made him completely despicable.
He was world road champion in Norway at the age of 21, he was always a doper, probably even when an amateur. I know amateurs I raced against sometimes doped and they definitely weren't good riders whatsoever, why bother?
I don't hate him but he should stay away from cycling forever. Then again maybe so should Wiggins, Froome, Jalabert, and lots more.
That's the human race for you in every context... Deceit, lies, cheating and money is the root of all or most of it.
Sorry, getting a bit deep 😁 I'll try and upload Mr Lance sometime here and a few more.
