From an alley in Killarney, Co. Kerry. I was especially impressed with the locking technique - cable between back tire and seatpost.

I like to do my rides around 5:30 or 6 in the morning, which means dark this time of year. I don't mind. Fewer people out and about.

Ha! Well, I like these. I especially like that wrapping job!
Have a Merry Christmas - and a safe one.

I'm not spending the day with family this year, sadly, but I made the most of the morning with a bike ride early on the empty streets. Last week, I passed a thousand miles on the "Hot Wheels" bike I finished at the end of August. It's at 1,132 miles now. I love this bike.

We have tried titanium and carbon fiber....but there’s nothing like high quality steel! Nice bike, nice photo.

These machines from the 60s, 70s & 80s have a beauty that just cannot be duplicated with today's exotic materials.

I appreciate the compliments. My other three bikes are steel, but this one (except for the steel fork) I confess is aluminum. It's made from one of Columbus' earliest aluminum tubesets, Aluthron, which they introduced around 1997.

It has some of the best, lightest stuff you could put on a bike in the '90's. Technology has improved since then, and I could get a new bike of similar weight and performance for not much more money, but I prefer the aesthetics of two or three decades ago. I love bright colors, chrome, and polished aluminum, and those things have become largely extinct in the past two decades. Matte black just doesn't appeal to me.
