This is my 1973 Raleigh Gran Sport racing bike. It was actually made in Nottingham. It didn't come with reflectors. I added those to minimize the possibility of becoming a hood ornament.

Nice Raleigh, Blue! Here's one from this weekend. My Surly LHT loves to pose against pretty scenery and dramatic skies:

This bike actually belongs to my nephew, who uses it to get to work and to church. The license plate on the back says "I started out with NOTHING and I still have some of it left."

Picked up my first *real* bike in probably 20 years. Absolutely love the way this thing stops with a feather touch (still mechanical, not the fancy hydraulic type)!

What a beauty! And looks like it has been well taken care of (or not ridden much ).

btw I've actually visited the Raleigh Nottingham factory before they stopped making their bikes in the UK.

Thanks for the words! It doesn't get used as much as it once did but it has had its use. I keep it up there out of harms way. I have a French built Motobecane (late 70s early 80s) while vintage isn't made out of the same stuff the Gran Sport is. It gets road in the more hazardous (to it) situations. While they both have there original parts in good shape, I have a stash of vintage parts just in case. I've threatened to build a replica bike out of that era and just haven't gotten around to it.

Edit: I think its cool to have an English made English bike and a French made French bike even if my age does start showing.

A couple from my trip to the skatepark a few days ago...Calgary has the largest skatepark in Canada and one of the largest (if not the largest) in North America.

A salesman tried to sell me one of those summer of 1973! I ended up with a Japanese bike instead (Azuki GS, in dark blue metalic).
