I was out riding the local trails last night and was inspired to get some MTB photos with the nice light and clouds. I got a nice one of a friend I bumped into (posted in the DA 15 group) but I was riding solo and later on I wanted more. So I decided to be the model too. I used my UltraPod2 to set up some self portraits using interval shooting. That is hard to do!
I got some decent ones on some relatively easy terrain, but focus isn't perfect and I feel like overall the shots are just so-so.
So then I decided to up the ante and ride a harder move for a more interesting shot. This move is maybe a 3' step up on to a big slab, and then a 15' steep descent down the slab back to dirt. I found that with this one the timing was difficult. I put the camera on interval shooting mode for a shot every 5 seconds. I had the flash up too and after a few shots the interval would get longer I think due to the flash recharging. So after riding it 4 or 5 times I was trying to go down it extra slow, waiting to see the flash when I lost traction and fell. I knocked the camera off it's perch and took a pretty hard fall down the slab that included some bloodletting. Ouch! I never got the shot I was after from that spot and instead came home with this one. The camera seems ok and I'll heal but it was an uncomfortable night trying to sleep last night.
