Well, my old Raleigh finally went belly up, the rear hub won't pull the chain any more, and way too many parts in there for me to try and rebuild it, so I recently stumbled into another 3 speed. Seems to be in good shape, I had to air up the tires and clean it a little, still needs a bit of work but not much. Some surface rust on handlebars and fenders, aluminum foil will take care of that but I'm waiting for better weather...other than that still need to check front wheel bearings, that kind of thing but it works perfect.

So now this is my "new" ride

Looks like good solid transportation and probably fun to ride as well. Nice! I haven't been able to bike commute like I usually do since breaking my collarbone skiing five weeks ago. I really miss it and can't wait to start leaving the car at home again!

Resolute

Bad timing: Birthday of our youngest is only four weeks before Christmas. Add the winter of 2010, when it started to snow two days before his third birthday and didn't really melt well into February. Luckily physically very gifted - and totally proud of his first bicycle - soon he rode the icy bumpy sidewalks of our neighborhood.

I don't think any other sport demands as much high level power as competitive cycling (Power, as distinct from torque). To go from 15mph to 30mph requires eight times the power. To increase speed from 20 to 25 mph, requires each leg to do the work both were previously doing. It is a tough sport.

Demoed a couple of rigs from a local-ish company yesterday - such a difference compared to the bikes we currently ride! For starters, these were 10+ lbs lighter than what we ride now...
