I still have a bike with the gear lever fixed to the frame that's the problem with bikes, they last far longer than the modern technology. I also have a (reasonably) modern lightweight road bike and a MTB but as I am nearing my 70th birthday they don't get ridden 'hard' anymore.

fixed never tried the other side yet, don't wanna use the brakes too much, it'll strip the paint on the wheel (if that's a paint)

Yes, and completely useless.. Back when I used my BMX I actually took the rear brake off because it made me know that it's no use to try braking
Still surprises me though that you hardly can find bmx forks with brake lugs anymore.

Anyways:

Well done to the rider who start them off so young !
I would like to know and see what the little one is sitting on.
Judging by the "handle" in front of him, it looks like something that one can buy and bolt on to the top-tube ?

Front seats that fix to the handlebars are reasonably common in Europe, I got one for my daughter (30 years ago) when we toured Holland and she loved it compared to the back seat we started out with - lets them talk to you and they can see a lot more.
