It is good fun to reverse adaptor to do close up like this.

I like creativity and experimentation

You just remind me to go and try interesting things again

Can "Trap in focus" or "Catch in focus" be used on a lens used with the reversed ring adapter ?

I haven't tried it, I would imagine it's hard to keep the shutter button half pressed while moving the camera backwards and forwards at the same time.

I haven't tried it yet either, however it's such a narrow depth of focus that the camera might not even have a chance to register and shoot a photo.
Plus your the one who should decide where the focus point is. Just a 1/10 mm movement makes a huge difference in these photos.

I really doubt that anyone would want to shoot with a reversed lens wide open. At least in my case I focus wide open, then adjust the apature, then take the photo.

Don't you have to fully press the shutter button Gary
I rarely used the feature, so i may be wrong.

Gary,
Thanks for posting some examples of what can be done with the least expensive of all macro solutions. There may be a small area of confusion, however. There are two kinds of reversing adapters.
  1. Filter thread to body mount
  2. Filter thread to filter thread

The first kind is what I normally think of as a reversing adapter. I purchased my 49mm/K-mount version for about $15. With it I am able to mount many of my lenses reversed directly on my camera body or on my K-mount bellows. Reversed on the body, I get a little more than 1:2 magnification with a 50mm lens. The longer the focal length, the less magnification.

The second kind allows reversing a lens (usually a normal prime) onto the filter threads of another lens (often a medium zoom). The amount of magnification depends on the focal length of the "host" lens as well as the reversed lens. I am not personally familiar with this approach, though I know there are some forum members that use it with success.

Steve

Thanks for clearing that up Steve. All these shots are with the first that you described.
