Tuesday Assignment #4: Shoot something during sunset

Welcome to the fourth Tuesday Assignment! Each week we'll have a new assignment intended to help your photography by opening up new ideas for shooting.

How does it work?

Each week will have a new theme. The theme might be specific, generic or anywhere in between. Your task is to create a shot that embodies the theme. Your interpretation is all that matters!

This is not a competition and there are no rules. Post your photos within this thread.

This week's theme: Shoot something during sunset

A photographer's best friend is not his camera, his lenses, or even his dog. It is light. Why, without light, we couldn't photograph a thing! And dramatic or colorful light can make a photo really pop.

The sunlight during sunset brings out some interesting colors. By throwing out a vivid yellow-orange, the contrasting shadows look blue. I love this look and have taken some great photos because of it.

Here are two examples:

Post any questions or comments in this thread -- as well as your interpretations of the theme.

Above all, have fun!

I like sunset tone - it adds mood.

Some of mine. Yellow tones are great.

roentarre,

The first one is just plain cool. Is that a pet or a lucky capture?

The second one works well for me because of the lighting, which is exactly what this exercise is about.

The third is a perfect abstract; Good color, composition, dof, etc.

Great set!

A lucky capture

I guess this expresses shooting something in sunset.

I'll also submit this one too.

Photo Tramp, The first doesn't do much for me due to the low contrast in the sky. And comparing it to the second one, wow! The second one really shows that 'spark' that makes a great photo. 1/20 handheld with no SR? Great shot.

OK then how about a little touch up.

I gave you the RAW shot instead of the one I processed. I think it definitely needed to be PP and a little saturation added. I think it stands out now. : :

OK, here's mine. Was trying to catch the moonrise, and those shots didn't work out so well. But after the moon was up a bit I managed to capture this one. I think some of you have seen it before. Title is "Moonrise, sunset, and low tide" Since the sunset is actually behind me, this can qualify. I've got a bunch of sunset shots, but I think you are talking about the light here and not the actual sunset.

I think this was taken with the FA 50mm 1.4, but it also could be the kit lens, I'm at work and don't have access to PSE which could tell me.
DS, f9.5 at 1/90 50mm focal length and 200 iso.

That's a really great photo, Saltwater. I've tried a couple with the sunset at my back but haven't quite gotten the results that you have.

Again, great capture.
