Was at the local jetty and this guy was hanging around - very overcast skies and inadvertently had the ISO at 800 - shooting at F8 with a Vivitar 75-205 one touch zoom - the one touch made focus pretty easy to find - I was pretty happy with this Kiron made lens but not to the std of other images just above this post...

I have generally found BIF very difficult, but new K-5 (since Nov 2011) has improved matters greatly with high ISO, high FPS, and better AF system compared to my old K200-D. These are some from Intaka Island wetland santuary in Cape Town.

All K-5 Sigma 170-500mm around 1/750s f/9.5 iso200

Your last shot looks like the bird from the "Honeybadger" video on YouTube!! What kind is it? If you haven't see the video look it up, it is an absolute riot but only if you don't mind the language

OP hasn't responded, but it looks like a Pale Chanting Goshawk, common in parts of Southern Africa, and often follows Honey Badgers as a hunting strategy.

Thanks! Here is an eagle from a few days ago just after liftoff.

Sorry Littledrawe, I'm slipping up here. Kevin is correct- though I dispute it somewhat :ugh:-I thought it was a Dark Chanting Goshawk, but someone told that the area where I saw it (Addo Elephant National Park) does not fall into its range. So Pale Chanting Goshawk it has to be, though I don't anything pale about it.
Thanks Kevin. Nice to see a fellow SAfrican around here. Like your shots. Can't wait to get a K5 too.

Maybe not as stricking as the previous birds of prey pics, which are most excellent, but here is my contribution this week:

You'll have to forgive me for the lack of sharpness - this was a pretty distant shot with my 50-200mm lens at the beach. Taken on the fly..... literally.

Loved seeing this in action -- the male finds the makings of the nest and the female builds it.
