Heron Ballet,

Yes, stunning Eagle shots, where are you getting them? I see Shawnee, KS; in your sig,
I spent some time in the early '80s in Leavenworth (short time, not hard time)
Used to go up to a NWR (Squaw Creek?) in southern Nebraska, get eagles and geese in the winters, never got eagles like that through.
Good stuff!
Thanks. I love shooting birds in flight as it just adds so much to the image. Sadly, as much as I love my K3-II, the autofocus still leaves me with so many missed shots. Holding out hope for a new body...someday...

Eagles are from Valdez Alaska. I was up there in July as one of the first salmon runs was arriving. Eagles were everywhere. I even got lucky and had a day of bright sunshine which really made it fun to shoot.

I have been to Squaw Creek. Of course, now it's called Loess Bluffs NWR because "squaw" was deemed offensive. However, the creek is still called Squaw Creek. Don't get me started on the silliness of some things.

Speaking of, here's a couple from last fall when the snow geese were staged up. For those that haven't ever seen snow geese in huge numbers, it's absolutely amazing.

Here's a link to a crappy video of thousands of birds taking off

I absolutely remember the rivers of geese through the skies in fall and spring, following the river north and south. Mostly Snows and Canadas, but also some of the other, smaller geese, and the cackling back and forth, alway thought it sounded like the back seat of a station wagon "Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"

Nice shots of the geese too, I like the compression on the first one, turning them into an abstract, chaotic pattern.

I've seen very few hummingbirds this season but they have been frequent visitors to the feeder this past week or so. I was able to take several photos today. The feeder is outside a window that I can open to get the photos. Twice today a pair of hummingbirds chased each other and one flew into the house and then out after I opened a couple of doors.

Another stab at catching a Belted Kingfisher in-flight,
This guy flushed off a piling as my ferry docked, was still getting up to speed,
fun to try and catch them

Nice catch, they move so fast. I have 3 that circle the pond I live on and they are so fast and don’t like to be around people

Today I got a new life species!

A juvenile long-tailed skua blew inland during a storm earlier this week, and now it is hunting for earthworms in a field not far from where I live. It's pretty! And rare! And I managed to BIF it! (with about 200 out of focus attempts for each succesful one - the light was low, and most of the time there was a messy autumn field background which the AF couldn't deal with)

Well done, well worth the out of focus attempts to get these

A flock of Trumpeter Swans flew close overhead on our walk today - unfortunately the light wasn't great and in my hurry the settings weren't perfect, but the camera did a reasonable job of grabbing focus.

They have a really nice call, unlike the Mute Swans which are silent (except for their wing swish).

Got a wad of them on Sunday, purposely having gone to a local park where there is a heronry on an island not far from the shore.

And the prehistoric Pterodactyl aka Black headed heron
