I find the double-crested cormorant in flight one of the tougher birds to photograph despite their size. They fly fast, they fly low to the water - it looks like less than a foot, and they are dark making picking them up tough. This picture is about 50% of the original. Shot at 600mm on a monopod.

Coming Home.

Taken at Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach, Oregon. I was fortunate that this turned out as well as it did, because when I spotted the gull, I was in the middle of swapping out lenses.

Nikon D70 body with AFZoom 70~210mm non D lens.

Thanks so much for viewing.

Antonio

very nice We don't have hummingbirds here in NZ, but I saw some at a feeder in New Mexico when I was visiting in July. What I found out real fast is they are slippery little suckers to photograph....
Try getting nine of them to sit still long enough to make a shot.

I suppose my photo demonstrates that it is indeed impossible!

I had a few other shots with more than 9 birds in them, but none were sharp enough to make a good shot. Nothing but blobs of color.

Here is another from that session. It was actually still light enough to read a book, but I needed extra light to make an exposure. I set up some studio lights, bounced off of some white poster board to illuminate the feeder (looking at the exif I see the flash also fired). The result was the background photographing all black.

A bit of an experiment here. This is a composite of five pics of a pair of Andean Condors displaying. They were too high for me to get detailed individual shots (and my focus may have been off as well) but their tumbling and acrobatics were spectacular (especially for a bird with a ten-foot wingspan). I wanted to capture it somehow so I clone-stamped parts of four images showing the birds onto my first image. Not technically brilliant but I hope it creates an impression of the event. The white patches are on the upper parts of the wings, the lower wings are black.
