Taking sunset photos this evening, I was post processing the shots and noticed several had these birds flying through. Not the best lens for birds in flight but heck, it's good enough for here. White Ibis flying through the scene.

Shot with my K-5, and a Pentax 28-105mm

Tony - on the immature Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, the dark streaking on the throat of this bird, identifies it as a first year male. Additional evidence is the 2 red feathers on the gorget. When this hummingbird makes its journey north in the spring, it will be sporting a full red gorget as an adult male. Young females are more challenging to identify at first glance, because they look very similar to adult females, as well as immature males that may not yet have the dark spots (stippling) on the throat.

I guess this is more like a "bird landing" image, but it's the most unique shot of a cardinal that I've captured so far

Well that's a great start!

You are doing well. If I may make a suggestion, try to leave some negative space in front of the bird when you crop the image, if practicable, as you did with the first set. It gives a sense of the bird's motion, and where it's going.
