Bank Swallows (same as Sand Martins in UK) at a breeding colony on a bluff overlooking Lake Ontario. Basically a matter of waiting for promising situations then letting go with a fast burst for a few seconds, and sorting through a lot of shots to see what you have when you get home.

Fishing terns is my favourite branch of BIFs, I think. I could spend an entire day just watching and trying to catch the perfect moment!

Actually, this is my personal hope for the K-New, that the new AF will allow me to follow a diving tern without getting confused by wave moments the moment the bird drops below the horizon. As it is, I get most of my birds after the splash.

...Well. Here's why I have my hopes up for the K-new AF. This is a very typical situation: Osprey diving for a fish. I managed to follow the bird perfectly as long as the background was blue sky, but during the dive, my AF gave up.
There is no editing here except the crop, since I don't plan to keep these. I AM aware that the bird is very far away, but this is the way we observe osprey in Denmark - they are very shy after centuries of persecution.

This might be a lot to ask of an AF. But the Nikon people next to me showed me their photos...

(And I DID manage to bring home a few better ones. But these misses hurt).

Out by the harbour on a rising tide these last days of winter with the K3 and HD 55-300

This was taken about the same distance as the ones you took:

But I have cropped deeply. I have given up on auto focus and was using manual focus with catch in focus set. Similar issues.

The prevailing view seems to be AF-C, select point 9, although some prefer 27: Focus help with K-3 birds in flight - PentaxForums.com But I have to admit my success rate with BIF is always low (even with the fast-focusing 55-300 PLM rather than the screw-driven FA*300 f4.5). Maybe the K-3iii will be a revolution!
