OK, so, I know this is cheating, but my K3iii is really tempting me to redefine my BIF shooting...
Butterfly in flight?

---------- Post added 08-22-21 at 11:05 AM ----------

Here's another one to make up for the blatant lack of bird in my other BIF-photo. I'm not sure it counts either though. It flew without wings, apparently...

this is a take off of the BIF, birds in flight thread inspired by photographs of dragonflies photographed while flying by Digitalis and MacLoz in this thread

Flying dragonflies - PentaxForums.com

it is for those photographs catching a bug [ insect ] in flight, whether by luck or intentional . . .

I have been following this thread for a few years, and thought I might start posting now that I have some new gear in place. The K-3 III and 55-300 PLM combo certainly make BIF photography a little more practical for me. It is Spring here in NZ, and yesterday was a very nice warm day 20C (68F) with light sea breezes. I live in a coastal town and just south of the town there is a very nice coastal walkway to a lighthouse. I have included an image of the headland where the Lighthouse is for context. The images of the Pied Shag (original and cropped) were taken from this headland down towards the reef. The camera and lens combo handled it nicely set to high speed drive, raw, and continuous autofocus with multipoint selection. In fact given the clutter in the sea, I was impressed how well the camera tracked the Pied Shag. There were also lots of large Kelp Gulls (Black Backed Gulls) about too, which were also able to be captured well with the K-3 III and 55-300 PLM. All up a very pleasant walk and satisfying afternoons photography.

This osprey has a small fish which he caught right behind me. I was in a kayak looking the other way, I heard the splash and was able to catch the getaway late.
